Foods That Help You Relax

You can unwind any time you choose. And taking five minutes for yourself to just relax and taste the moment (literally) can reap massive benefits - even more than say, a five-hour energy.

Here’s a bunch of foods you can use today to reset your clock - so you can take care of yourself and make the most of your waking hours.

  • Pour a cup of Green-tea: sipping a warm, soothing cup of herbal tea does wonders - it’s a source of L-Theanine, which helps relieve anger.

  • Cut open a mango: take a quick tropical vacation with this juicy superfood, which packs a compound called linalool that helps lower stress levels. Yes - it’s well worth the mess.

  • Bite into dark chocolate: even a square or two of your favorite bar can help ease your nerves - its antioxidants help regulate your stress hormone cortisol - and can even balance your metabolism.

  • Chew a piece of gum: munching on some sticky stuff - fruity, minty or classic bubble - also can lower your cortisol levels and reduce anxiety.

  • Munch on some crunchy foods: the simple act of noshing can help channel stress and give some of it away - one study found we crave a salty crunch when our tension acts up.

Crunching on a carrots or a handful of trail mix can go a long way to move onto the next task at hand with less tightness and a little more ease.

Looking for an afternoon energy pick up? Try eating a whole apple, slowly. The simple act of sinking your teeth into something can awaken your senses - and the natural sugars and fiber of the doctor’s favorite fruit is often compared to a cup of coffee - only without the crash.

Food is energy, and energy is life.

Work a few of these into your week, and maximize all three - after all, it’s the little things that can often make your day taste the sweetest.
