The Scales Of Justice

Once there was a farmer who sold a pound of butter to a baker. When the baker got home, he weighed the butter, and found that he received less than he paid for. Feeling that an injustice had been done, he took the farmer to court.
At court, the judge asked the farmer how he went about weighing the butter. The farmer explained that though he didn’t have a proper measure, he did own a scale. This confused the judge, who asked,
“Without a proper measure, how do you determine the weight of the butter?”
To this, the farmer replied:
“Your Honor, long before the baker started buying butter from me, I have been buying a pound loaf of bread from him. Every day when the baker brings the bread, I put it on the scale and give him the same weight in butter. If anyone isn’t pulling his weight, it is the baker.”
The moral of the story: You get what you give, so make sure you give what you want to receive.
